HISTORY

Between 1940 and 1960 the areas of Cricklewood, Harlesden and Kilburn became a focal point for the rapidly growing Irish community in London. For those that stayed and those that returned home, The Crown pub on Cricklewood Broadway, which is immortalized in McAlpines Fusiliers by Dominic Behan, remains an icon of the times. This photo of Pake McNicholas, Pitcher (Michael) McNicholas and Margaret McNicholas, from Co. Mayo, was taken outside The Crown in 1947. Michael McNicholas was the founder of McNicholas Construction ‘The Brown Macs’.
